As Christ Followers, we believe that we are stewards of God’s resources because He is the owner of all that we have. Throughout scripture, we are reminded of the importance of giving back a portion of what God has so generously provided.
King David wrote, ”The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it…” (Psalm 24:1). In essence, we are giving back to God what He gave to us in the first place.
So we view giving as a privilege and an act of faith. God challenged His followers to “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse (aka. the church), that there may be food in my house. Test me in this” (Malachi 3:10). This is why we give to the local church.
You’ve probably seen one of those pirate movies where the crew goes on a dangerous journey to find a buried treasure. They almost always have a map with a big X that marks the spot. The treasure promises the dream life and they want it so bad that they risk it all; their home, their family, and their very lives. Those movies don’t usually end well as the greed of a few ruin it for everybody.
Whether it’s Wall Street, Main Street, or Your Street, there’s a lot of treasure hunting going on today. In real treasure hunting, there’s a profound connection between our hearts and the treasure. Jesus said it this way: “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Luke 6:21). In other words, look at where your treasure is and put an X there. X marks the spot where your heart is located. Jesus never says treasures are bad or good. He just says that’s how you can know where your heart is.
At LifeBridge, this is why we are generous with our treasures. We don’t want to miss out on the Greater Than life God wants for us – a life where true treasures are not found in earthly fortune, but in eternal, heavenly treasures.
As Christ Followers, we believe that we are to follow God’s command regarding tithing. “Tithe” means “tenth” or 10 percent. Leviticus 27:30 says, “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.”
In Malachi 3:8-10 God speaks to His people, “Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—the whole nation of you— because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”
God wants us to trust Him and giving a tithe is a significant NEXT STEP in your faith as a Christ follower.
At LifeBridge, we have several ways that you can give to God’s work through your tithes and offerings. You can give by check on Sundays, you can mail a check to our office, you can give online, or you can have an automatic draft.
Please know that the online giving does not make a distinction regarding a debit card or a credit card. We do strongly suggest that no one use a credit card unless it is paid off every month. The Bible speaks in Proverbs 22:7 about “…the borrower [being] servant to the lender.” We do not wish our congregation to go into debt by tithing on a credit card.
God provides for LifeBridge through the tithes and offerings of partners and attendees. Income is received electronically, by checks and by cash contributions. We consider every penny spent at LifeBridge to be mission spending.
Our budget also supports contributions to local and international missions, benevolence and scholarships. The budget is set every fall by the church elder board for the following year based on the goals and objectives of each ministry area within the church.
LifeBridge follow the highest levels of accountability and accounting practices possible. An annual report is available showing financial and ministry information from the previous year. Contribution notices are emailed quarterly to our givers. Also, contributors can request access to view their giving at anytime by emailing their requests: sparisriden@mylifebridgechurch.com.
